Wan Naim

Wan Naim Wan Mansor is a research fellow and managing editor for the flagship journal Islam and Civilisational Renewal at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, and his research interest focuses on bringing Islamic perspectives as well as applying complex systems theory to various social science issues, such as those related to global Muslim affairs, political Islam, Malaysian politics, multiculturalism, public policies, and intercivilisational engagements.

He has authored and co-authored several academic articles and book chapters on topics such as: ‘The Right to Freedom of Religion and Jurisdictional Conflicts in Malaysia’ (2023); ‘The Tyranny of the Majority and its Remedies’ (2017); ‘Happiness as an Objective of Shari’ah’ (2016); and ‘Protecting the Religion (Maqsad Hifz al-Din) in Malaysian Political Islam’ (2016). In addition to his regular contributions for IAIS Malaysia’s publications, he regularly writes for newspaper outlets such as the New Straits Times, and The Edge, writing on various public policy issues from an Islamic perspective such as his most recent one on “Ramadan attacks on Al-Aqsa a symptom of larger Israeli occupation of Palestine”.
