14DEC2023 event

Event Overview

The creation of Israel in 1948 was a colonial and imperial project that shares many similarities with the apartheid regime in South Africa. Both states were established based on racial supremacy and the dispossession of indigenous peoples. In both cases, the international community initially turned a blind eye to the human rights abuses being committed but eventually came to recognize that these regimes were illegitimate and unsustainable.

Today, there is a growing consensus that Israel is an apartheid state. Human Rights organisations have concluded that Israel is systematically denying Palestinians their fundamental rights, including the right to freedom of movement, property right, and the right to equality.

The purpose of this round table is to discuss the lessons that can be learned from the South African experience in the fight against Israeli apartheid.

Registration for the event closes on December 13, 2023.
