BACKGROUND
As the COVID-19 pandemic reached its one year mark, the role of religious institutions has become more vital than ever. Religious actors and leaders are essential in addressing various new challenges, such as ensuring a safe environment for religious gatherings, bridging trust between parties, promoting effective communication and advocacy, as well as responding to the needs of the community. Religious institutions are also critical in countering hate speech and misinformation, not only at the domestic level but also internationally. In this rapidly evolving situation, informed and nuanced religious voices should be part of the broad policy discussion. Active and continuous collaboration between various faith groups at a substantial level would not only strengthen the community as a whole, but would also be key in mitigating negative impacts from the pandemic.
