BACKGROUND
Last October, the International Monetary Fund revised its World Economic Outlook and forecasted that the world would experience an economic slump up to -4.4% in 2020, which marks a further 1.4% decline compared to the forecast in April 2020 (-3%). As the global economy braces for an economic downturn and prolonged recession, questions arise on its potential adverse impacts on the Islamic finance industry. This Islamic finance talk series will discuss the outlook of economy and Islamic finance in 2021, particularly within the context of post-COVID-19 pandemic.
