      Dirasat:  IAIS undertakes policy-oriented Research Activities embraced by the Ten Principles of Civilisational Renewal. Currently our major efforts comprise the following Topics or Dirasat:

      3. Civilisation, Interfaith, Peace & Security
      4. Shariah, Law, Governance & Halal
      5. Education, Culture & Arts

      Each Topic has its own page collecting representative overviews and relevant items of interest. These reflect our work, as well as drawing on best efforts by others. Dirasat are intended to disseminate IAIS research and provide platforms facilitating other actors and entities to share in and benefit from our work. Several Topic pages remain under construction; some contain inter-active features or give links to related sites and resources.

        Close study of Islamic religious, intellectual and spiritual traditions may demonstrate that peace and Islam are conceptually inseparable, and can be implemented in practice. Islam offers a path to strive for peace, justice and reconciliation in the world through which we may also strive for eternal peace and security in the presence of our Creator. Muslims may uncover, renovate and innovate peace-making practices that realistically embody Islamic ideals people commonly acknowledge yet too frequently ignore in their actual conduct of life. The materials provided by IAIS facilitate integration of theory and practice, aiming at more adequate applications of Islamic peaceful values for human wellbeing and security.

      • Economic, Finance, Zakat & Awqaf

        With the rapid growth of Islamic banking and finance, there is a need to understand precisely what is meant by these terms, as well as what Muslims and non-Muslims can reasonably expect from IBF. In what ways are IBF different from their conventional counterparts? What can they accomplish that conventional BF cannot? These are some of the themes explored in this new section. The articles are intended to be easy to read and thus easy to understand. Some have been take from the media, others contributed by in-house staff or external scholars.

        The distinguishing features of IBF include the following: the absence of riba or interest from all banking and finance, the application of risk as well as profit and loss sharing in financing, the absence of gharar (excessive risk), and abstaining from trading in prohibited substances. It is important for IBF to maintain its unique identity and build on its strengths. Otherwise it will be difficult to capitalize on the benefits of IBF. Our readers are welcome to contribute and suggest themes we can add and disseminate. We will post new articles, links or any other themes of interest.
